Flea Bite Allergy Dermatitis Natural Remedy

Flea Bite

Fleas are an extremely common parasite among dogs and cats.  Some pets suffer very little from the bites of these creatures but a number of less fortunate pets develop an allergic reaction to flea saliva, leading to a severe skin reaction known as flea bite dermatitis. Fleas bite their host animal and suck the blood for nutrition, leaving saliva behind under the pet’s skin.  Recent scientific studies have shown that flea saliva contains around 15 different allergens that can cause reactions in sensitive dogs and cats.

The common problem of flea bite dermatitis affects both cats and dogs of all ages, genders and breeds. In pets with this condition, the flea bites themselves generally become red, swollen and severely itchy. This leads to chronic inflammation and scratching of the skin as well as ongoing discomfort for your pet.

Flea Allergy Dermatitis

Dogs and cats with flea bite dermatitis generally show signs of chronic biting, scratching and rubbing their skin, especially around the base of the tail.  This may, in turn, lead to hair loss and thinning of the coat. The skin may appear red and inflamed.  A flea allergy will also be noticeably seasonal and cause worse symptoms during summer and fall when fleas are most prolific.

To get to the root cause of this condition it is important to rid your pet of fleas entirely. Many flea-control products available in pet-stores including flea collars, sprays and shampoos are very effective when used regularly.

FleaDerm contains the following 100% natural, herbal and homeopathic ingredients in an aqueous cream base:

Matricaria Recutita (German Chamomile) was regarded by ancient Anglo-Saxons as one of the nine sacred herbs given to the world.  In modern times it is widely used as a gentle cleansing, anti-inflammatory and soothing herb.

Galium Aperine (Cleavers) is an herb which has been used in folk medicine for many centuries as a cleansing tonic and lymphatic cleanser and blood purifier. Hamamelis Virginianum (Witchhazel) is excellent for reducing inflammation, bleeding and pain. It has long been used by Native Americans to relieve the pain, swelling, bruising, & bleeding of external injuries. Witchhazel also has anti-bacterial properties which help to prevent infection.

Graphites (30C) This homeopathic remedy is beneficial for skin ailments, such as chronic skin sores, dermatitis, slow healing wounds and scar tissue. Also widely used to treat severely dry and cracked skin due to its excellent skin conditioning properties.

What Else Can I Do To help My Pet

  • Remove your pet's food after a while if it is not finished. Periods of fasting throughout the day are very important for effective digestion and detoxification.
  • Ensure your pet is eating a balanced, high quality diet with plenty of raw and unprocessed food (preferably organic). Flatulence problems are often solved by a change in diet.
  • If flatulence is a recent problem, consider what changes you may have recently made to your pet's diet. Or perhaps he has been visiting the neighborhood rubbish dump for dessert?
  • Filtered or bottled water is preferable to chlorinated or fluorinated water.
  • Avoid exposure to toxins and chemicals as much as possible including pesticides, herbicides, commercial flea collars, flea powder, insecticides and second-hand cigarette smoke.
  • Emotional or physical stress can also have an effect on digestion.
  • Food and water bowls should be made of glass, stainless steel or porcelain
  • Don't feed your pet chocolate as even a small amount can be toxic. Avoid foods that are high in sugar.
  • Cook food in stainless-steel pans, not aluminum or copper pans
  • Regular exercise will help to keep your pet healthy and fit and can often help with flatulence problems.
